Happy Tuesday! It’s time for a new challenge over at CASology. Here is this week’s cue card:Screen Shot 2014-03-10 at 6.56.17 PM

ROOTS made me think of grass which my two cats love eating. I used to feed them organic wheat grass that I got at local grocery market. Now it’s been three months since I started growing my own cat grass from oat seeds at home. It is super easy to grow and the seeds sprout quickly. I was amazed by how long roots were when my cats pulled out the sprouts to eat. More surprisingly, they kept growing even after my cats already ate half of them. Those little sprouts are simply amazing!

I learned some lesson from the experience on growing grass, and wanted to represent it into my card, then I came up with a sprout card. FYI, I used the computer generated sentiment to support my thought. “You’re stronger than you think.” Sometimes we doubt our possibilities, or we underestimate our abilities. But, nobody knows until it happens. Don’t you agree with that? Your heart is full of fertile seeds, waiting to sprout. Just need to be patient and believe in ourselves.

Here is a closer look at my card. I used Tea Dye distress embossing powder to create faux soil effect for my background. For the seed leaf, I used the Flower Fusion mini stamp set from Papertrey Ink. Then I made roots using warp threads from muslin.

Here is how I created my card. 1)Start with computer-generated sentiment on 120lb white cardstock from SSS. 2)Cover the top portion of my card front with scrap paper and rub the open area with versamark ink pad. 3)Sprinkle some distress embossing powder over the inked area. 4)Heat emboss it. 5)Stamp the image and cut it out, leaving the stem. 6)Adhere warp threads to the sprout and then attach it to the card base.

I made another card which is a horizontal top folding card. Since I had more room for the roots, I attached extra long warp threads, which made my roots to look more realistic. Love the texture and color that distress heat-embossing brings. It really looks like rich ground to me.

Which card do you like the most? Me? I love both!!! :) These cards would be perfect to be sent to someone who needs encouragement. By the way, I’m entering my card into the following challenges : Simon Says Monday challenge and The Card Concept #5.
